Yes, put your image as a transparency map (Surfaces), not a clip map.
If your object has many surfaces, you will need to put the map to all of
them (sharing the same values).  If one of your surfaces is transparent,
you can use Additive to add another layer of transparency (or get LW 5.0
soon and forget about it...).
